Co-op Registration

Fall 2019 Classes: 

  • PreSchool for kids 3-5- The littles will travel the globe with a story and related craft each week. Class Fee: $5

1st Hour Class Choices:

  • The Art of Nature (ages 6-9) – Let’s explore the beautiful world around us. This art class will focus on nature journaling and nature related crafts. The class fee includes a journal that the kids will use in class. Class Fee: $7

  • World Geography (6-9) – Visit the world as we study different countries and cultures. Students will learn about languages, geography, lifestyles, and more. There will be foods and crafts related to the countries we study. Students need to bring a spiral notebook, pencil, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, and glue stick. Class Fee: $10

  • Planetary Science (6-9) – This class will cover all the basics of Earth, from our solar system to the layers of the planet. It will be a hands-on project based class. Please bring to each class: Pencils, scissors, glue or glue stick, and crayons or colored pencils or markers. Class Fee: $8

  • Science for 10-13 – We will study the scientific method, force and motion, current electricity, static electricity, different forms of measurement, and much more. Students will need to bring notebook or paper to take notes, pencil or pen, crayons, scissors for class and a folder if they choose to keep their papers in. We will do an experiment every week to go with the lesson. Class Fee: $4

  • Cooking (10+) – Get acquainted with the kitchen. Everyone will learn the basics of kitchen skills and the art of cooking. We will prepare a dish in every class, and I will post the recipes on our co-op page for your students to show off their skills at home. High school students can earn a 1/2 credit elective. Class Fee: $15 

  • Book Club (ages 13+) – We will be learning about World War II this semester. Your student(s) will learn about the events leading up to the war, the rise of Adolf Hitler and the axis powers, the American home front, the Holocaust, espionage, the Nuremberg trials and more. There will not be a writing assignment this semester, but students will be required to research topics to share during our discussion-based class times (this is good practice for research papers). Required text: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Optional text: (DK) World War II: The Definitive Visual History by Richard Holmes. No Class Fee.

  • Photography (14+) – This is a beginners basic photography class. It will be adapted according to the class body. We will learn basic rules and how to apply them to obtain better output. A camera is needed, but if equipment is a concern please contact us. Class Fee: $10

2nd Hour Class Choices:

  • Six Flags Over Texas: An Intro to Texas History (ages 6-9) – Strap on your boots each week to learn about the people and places that make Texas, well, Texas y’all! This class will focus on memorizing the Texas state pledge as well as learning the state symbols and landmarks, the story behind the six flags that have flown over Texas, and some famous Texans who helped shaped our great state. Each week students will add projects to a Texas-sized notebook to take home at the end of the semester. Students need pencil, colored pencils, scissors, glue stick. Class Fee: $3

  • Baking (6-9) – This class will cover the fundamentals of baking and being in the kitchen. We will be make pancakes, biscuits, pies and so forth. Class Fee: $8

  • Learning with Legos (ages 6-12) – In this class we will be learning about geography, art, science and maybe a little math too. Each week will be a new “surprise” topic. Students are welcome to bring their own Legos, but they need to be in a container with a lid and only used during class time. We will have a big container of Legos available for use. No Class Fee.

  • Astronomy (10-13) – We’ll study the solar system, sun and moon; Comets, asteroids and meteors too! I am planning a field trip to The Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College in Corsicana. More details to follow. Class Fee: $5

  • Sewing Class (10+) – We will start out making a large reversible tote/bag/purse with ruffle or rosette options. With left over fabric we will do small zipper bags for makeup, pens or so forth. Supplies needed- Sewing machine with size 16 needles, 1 3/4 yards of fabric, 2 yards of coordinating fabric (Fabric prices vary, $3 & up per yard), coordinating thread, sewing measuring tape, scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat, 6″ zipper (any coordinating color), straight pins or fabric clip. For those that are new to sewing, we will make time to meet beforehand to help you learn your machine. If we have extra time in the last class or two, we will teach how to make a small handmade gift for the holidays or a special occasion. No Class Fee

  • Crafts (12+) – We will be making fun and useful crafts for teens, such as photo/note holders, leather bookmarks, and clay organizers. Please bring to each class: Pencils, scissors. Other small household supplies may be requested for specific classes. Class Fee: $10

  • Daily Life Skills (14+) – We will talk, discuss and train on each of these important life skills: Value of money and budgeting, buying of goods & services, grocery shopping math & forms of payment,  daily routines, time management, texting, email & telephone manners, workplace & volunteer behaviors, friendships, communication, and problem solving. Class Fee: $8

After classes, weather permitting, we can meet at Kaufman Sports Complex for lunch and PE play time.
